Alongside his performing work, Josh is a dedicated cello teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages and ability levels. His teaching style is supportive, engaging, and tailored to each individual—whether they’re complete beginners or more advanced players looking to refine their technique and musical understanding. Josh focuses on building technique, tone production, and musical knowledge, creating a structured whilst engaging environment for learning. He is experienced in preparing students for ABRSM and Trinity exams, as well as supporting those who play purely for enjoyment. Lessons are available both in person and online.  In addition to one-to-one teaching, Josh has experience coaching chamber music at Chetham’s School of Music, where he was previously a student. In 2022, he returned to work with middle school students at the specialist music school, leading rehearsals and curating a chamber concert that showcased their work.

Josh currently teaches cello at Normanhurst School (part of the Oak-Tree Group) in Chingford and maintains a small number of private lesson spaces. For enquiries about private tuition, please get in touch via email at info@joshmountford.com
