A modern Classical-Pop fusion string duo, the Petford Duo formed in 2017, by two former students of Chetham’s School of Music. Aleksandar Petrov, violinist and Josh Mountford, cellist, perform together across the UK at all types of occasions – corporate events, weddings, funerals and much more. Based in London, the duo perform predominantly classical, pop, and jazz music, but have a rich library of music containing many more styles of music.
Forming the Bauhaus Trio in 2021, the piano trio went on to win the esteemed RNCM Nossek Chamber Music Prize in the following year, performing Mendelssohn’s D Minor Piano Trio. They have performed across the UK, performing at the Haslemere Methodist Church and at the C. Bechstein Centre, Manchester upon its opening in 2022. The ensemble continues to perform together, as they work on both new arrangements as well as playing through the huge library of Piano Trio greats.
As both the cellist and keyboardist of this band, Josh performs in the Forever Elton Tribute Show. Playing on a Yamaha SVC-210 Electric Cello, Josh, alongside the band, performs a tribute to the music of Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin across the UK and Europe at theatres, hotels, and more.
Critically acclaimed five-piece ensemble, forming of oboe, violin, viola, cello and keyboard, Fordante entertains audiences across the UK with popular light classics, film scores as well as original compositions by Phil Mountford. Typically performing in village halls and theatres, the group also plays at wedding ceremonies, Josh has been the cellist of this ensemble for many years.
Originally forming in Josh’s first year of undergraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, the Riedl Quartet performed across Manchester during their time together at the RNCM. In 2022, Josh brought the ensemble to his former school, Chetham’s, where they were to collaborate with middle school students of the music specialist school, in a two day intensive project, involving rehearsals and coaching sessions that Josh would lead. This culminated with a final performance in Chetham’s Carole Nash Recital Hall with all the partaking students, celebrating the work that was achieved over the project together.
Josh can been seen performing with several other string quartets and small ensembles, regularly working with groups spanning across all regions of the UK; Indy Strings, String Infusion, Capriccio Quartet, The Kings Quartet. These ensembles typically perform at wedding ceremonies and corporate events, as well as session work.
